Robert Smyth-Medina, M.D. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Mexico City, where he attended medical school. After completing his education in Mexico, he returned to the United States to pursue an ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at the David Geffen School of Medicine. Following his residency in ophthalmology, he has been working at North Valley Eye Center in the San Fernando Valley and as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute.
He is married and has two daughters who have recently graduated from college. Robert is fluent in English and Spanish, and he has a good command of French. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities, sports, and is an avid pickleball player.
Dr. Smyth-Medina is delighted to join the Colvard-Kandavel Eye Center, bringing over three decades of expertise in comprehensive ophthalmology care to the community. Previously, Dr. Smyth-Medina has served as Medical Director at North Valley Eye and California Eye Specialist in Mission Hills. Additionally, Dr. Smyth-Medina is affiliated with Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where they have held a position on the executive committee at the Surgery Center.
Dr. Smyth-Medina continues to share their knowledge as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute. Dedicated to providing advanced, patient-centered care, Dr. Smyth-Medina has a particular passion for improving access to eye care through community initiatives such as Eye Care America. Their expertise encompasses a wide range of ophthalmologic conditions, and they are committed to delivering personalized care to help patients achieve optimal eye health.
