Dr. Ash Kashanchi—known to his patients as “Dr. Ash”—is a Los Angeles–native ophthalmologist with deep roots in the San Fernando Valley. He is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon, providing advanced, comprehensive surgical care focused on preserving vision, reducing treatment burden, and optimizing long-term eye health.
Dr. Ash began his academic journey at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks before graduating with high honors from Brandeis University, where he earned a double major in Philosophy and Biology. He went on to receive his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, graduating at the top of his class.
During medical school, he conducted and published research on the global burden of blindness and collaborated with leading cornea specialist Dr. Anthony Aldave at UCLA. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas at Houston—home to one of the nation’s busiest trauma centers—where he gained extensive experience managing complex and advanced eye disease at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. He then pursued a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at UC San Diego under the mentorship of internationally recognized glaucoma expert Dr. Robert Weinreb.
Dr. Ash brings a modern, evidence-based approach to patient care, combining cutting-edge surgical techniques with a personalized philosophy—treating every patient with the same attention and care he would offer his own family.
Dr. Ash specializes in advanced refractive cataract surgery, including laser-assisted cataract surgery, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques and premium intraocular lens technology to enhance overall visual performance and reduce dependence on glasses. His approach emphasizes precision, customization, and achieving the highest level of visual quality tailored to each patient’s lifestyle.
As a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist, Dr. Ash provides a full spectrum of surgical glaucoma care, including both Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and traditional glaucoma procedures.
MIGS is a rapidly evolving category of micro-invasive techniques designed to lower intraocular pressure with a strong emphasis on safety, faster recovery, and preservation of the eye’s natural anatomy. These procedures may be performed:
For patients with more advanced disease, Dr. Ash also performs traditional glaucoma surgeries, which offer more powerful and durable pressure reduction when needed. By offering both MIGS and conventional approaches, he is able to tailor treatment to each patient’s specific condition, anatomy, and long-term goals.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ash has contributed to research focused on improving global eye health and continues to stay at the forefront of innovation in ophthalmology. He is also the creator of an emerging technology designed to empower individuals with visual impairment.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ash enjoys hiking and spending time with his wife, Shoshana, a local teacher.
