PanOptix Lens

Breakthroughs in the design of multifocal lenses have led to the development of the new PanOptix trifocal IOL. The standard monofocal lenses used routinely in cataract surgery provide excellent visual quality, but only allow for reduced dependency on glasses for either distance or near objects, but not both. The new PanOptix IOL is the first and only trifocal IOL which provides reduced dependency on glasses for all distances — distance, intermediate (computer distance) and near.

In a clinical study, 129 patients were asked about their experience with the PanOptix IOL. 99% of patients with the PanOptix IOL stated that they would choose the same IOL again and 98% said that they would recommend the PanOptix IOL to family and friends. 80.5% of patients implanted with the PanOptix IOL reported that, within the week prior to completing the study questionnaire, they had found it unnecessary to wear glasses for any of their daily activities.

Is the Cataract Surgical Procedure Different with the PanOptix IOL vs. a Standard Monofocal IOL?

No. The cataract surgery is performed in the same thirty minute procedure. The only difference is that your surgeon implants the trifocal PanOptix IOL instead of a standard monofocal IOL. This results in the same comfort and short recovery time that patients experience with cataract surgery.

Am I a candidate for PanOptix?

The PanOptix IOL is well suited for patients over the age of 50 who have reduced vision due to cataracts and wish to achieve more independence from glasses for distance, intermediate and near vision than traditional monofocal lenses allow. Not all patients are ideal candidates for this new technology. Prior eye disease and medical history will be carefully considered. Based on each patient’s activities and goals our doctors will determine if you are a good candidate for this new IOL. The information provided above may not apply to all patients who receive this new technology and results may vary. Some patients who receive these new lenses may still require glasses after surgery for some activities.
